Instrumental music classes at Bancroft are offered to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Classes include: 6th Grade Bronco Band, 6th Grade String Orchestra, 7-8th Grade Symphonic Band, and 7-8th Grade Concert String Orchestra. Any 6th grader may join band or orchestra, even if they have no previous experience on an instrument. 7th and 8th graders must have prior experience playing a band or orchestral instrument, and have a teacher recommendation.
The goal of the music classes at Bancroft is to provide students with the knowledge, concepts, and skills required to successfully participate in a performance ensemble. Students are given the opportunity to perform in a variety of concerts and venues. Each class is exposed to an assortment of musical compositions, theoretical ideas, and cultures.

Music - 6th Grade String Orchestra & 6th Grade Bronco Band
The 6th Grade String Orchestra and Bronco Band classes allow beginners and more experienced musicians the opportunity to acquire the necessary playing skills to be able to perform in harmony with their peers. These students rehearse three times weekly and are required to practice throughout the school year. Students are given a variety of level 1 literature, historical information , and beginning theoretical concepts. They perform for the Winter and Spring Concerts and the Orchestra and Band Festivasl. Grades are based upon: practice, attendance at performances, individual playing tests, and classroom participation.
Music - 7th and 8th Grade Concert String Orchestra
The 7-8th Orchestra is an advanced level string ensemble. They rehearse every day at 7:30 AM and are required to practice 120 minutes weekly throughout the year. Students are given a variety of literature, historical information, and theoretical concepts. They perform for the Winter and Spring Concerts, the Orchestra Festival and various other performances including community events. Grades are based upon: practice, attendance at performances, individual playing tests, and classroom participation. This class is eligible to audition for performances in Disneyland every other year.
The 7-8th Grade Symphonic Band is an advanced level wind/percussion ensemble. They rehearse every day and are also required to practice 120 minutes weekly throughout the year. Students are given a variety of literature, historical information, and theoretical concepts.
